💡 Thought of the Week

There are so many “last times” in caregiving.
The last time they drive a car.
The last time you share a real conversation.
The last time they remember your birthday.

Most of the time, you don’t even realize it’s the last time — until it’s already gone.

You’re the one doing all the driving now.
Conversations feel one-sided.
Your birthday comes and goes without a single “Happy Birthday.”

And so the grief builds — quietly, invisibly — in the middle of your caregiving.

It’s just one of a thousand reasons this is so hard.

Be easy on yourself.

📺 Video of the Week

Saying yes to someone with dementia can be dangerous.

What if they want to drive a car? Send money to a stranger? Live alone?

There are many situations where saying “yes” is actually dangerous.

So what are you supposed to do if saying “no” makes them upset?

In this week’s video I talk about the importance of saying “no” without actually saying “no.” I also share a free download of 5 scripts to say “no” in the most loving way possible so you can have the most calm possible on this caregiving journey.

One of the best ways to prevent disruptive behaviors is to keep your loved one engaged in something they enjoy.

Because if someone with dementia is focused on a calming or meaningful activity…

They can’t be focused on something distressing or harmful at the same time.

I found these “Remember When” picture books on Amazon — and they might be just the thing to hold your loved one’s attention, spark some positive memories, and maybe even give you a little time to yourself.

Right now they’re less than $11.
