Confused by what’s “normal” dementia behavior—and what needs attention?
I’ve put together a free guide that breaks down the most common dementia symptoms every caregiver should know about—plus simple tips for how to respond.

Careblazer,
This past week reminded me just how powerful connection can be. A few members of the Care Collective organized a gathering in Texas and invited me to join them. While it wasn’t an official Careblazers event, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to spend time with Careblazers who’ve walked through so much together.
Even though many of us had never met in person before, it felt like reuniting with old friends.
Out on that quiet Texas ranch, surrounded by open skies and open hearts, I witnessed something unforgettable—love, laughter, and deep support that left me with two big takeaways I want to share with you.
1) I want to serve better.
Being surrounded by such generosity and compassion lit a fire in me to deepen what we’re doing here at Dementia Careblazers. I left inspired to grow, evolve, and make this community even more meaningful for you.
2) Joy and pain can coexist.
Some people were grieving recent losses. Others are still actively caregiving. But what struck me most was how, even in the heart of sorrow, there was genuine joy. Stories, hugs, tears, and laughter—all of it flowed together. Both can exist. And it’s beautiful when they do.
These memories will stay with me forever.
When I started Careblazers, I hoped to support family caregivers. What I didn’t expect was how deeply you would impact me in return.
My heart is full. Thank you for being part of this mission.
I’m exploring ways to create more opportunities to connect in person.

Q: How do I get my husband to let me help him brush his teeth? He only let’s the dental hygienist do this for him about once a month.
A: One of the best ways to figure out what will work… is to look at what’s already working.
In this case, the dental hygienist is having success. So it’s worth asking:
His openness to her—but not to you—also hints at a deeper dynamic that’s important to understand.

Why do many people with dementia “refuse” to bathe? It’s one of the most frustrating and confusing challenges caregivers face — but there’s usually a reason behind it.
In this video, I break down the most common reasons people with dementia resist bathing. Some reasons might surprise you. And knowing what’s really going on can make all the difference.
We care because of people like you.
Because we see the love and sacrifice you pour into your loved one—
and the kindness you extend to other caregivers along the way.
You are the reason this company exists.
You are the reason I keep showing up.
Thank you for letting me be part of your journey.

🧰 Careblazer Favorites: Struggling with toothbrushing battles? This might help.
This week’s tool is a 3-sided toothbrush designed to clean more areas in less time—especially helpful for people with sensory sensitivities.
One caregiver said:
If your loved one resists brushing, this gentle, efficient tool could make all the difference.
And don’t forget: brushing with them, side by side, can often make the process feel safer and more familiar.
Sending love,
